Hi
I believe some of u all r using the abv filter esp those who r keeping big cichlids. I like the classic but it is not user frdly, as for Pro2 there may be leakages btw the baskets and this will greatly alleviate the efficiency. For Pro1, not quite like it as no primer and also water leakages.

Been using the classic for many yrs and so far, not much prob except to prime it after maintenance. If only they come out classic wit Pro2 technology, it will be perfect.

For me, i like the Pro2 and classic, how bout u all? Any comments? :)

I only use those models with priming, so namely ProII and Ecco.:p

Classic not bad after using it I feel, Pro 1 I dont really like, anyway Eheim stopped Pro 1 liao. Pro 2 also not bad.

Eco is sorta another nonsense, I hate filters that are expensive and weak.

But I guess those pond size filter best. Maintainence messy is only once per one or two months. The efficiency is unrivalled.

Cloud: I think since Eheim came up wif the priming set (inlet and outlet set), priming Pro classic no longer pose a problem.

IMO the best filter for big fishes or tanks is the overflow system, expensive initially but in a long run worth it.

I want to ask you guys a question. It's something that I've done and tried.. and it works, but I want to know what's the bad side to it.. because if it was good I'm sure everyone would be doing it and no one would complain about priming

The concept of priming is to fill the canister up with water so the suction can start the flow of water. So simple, what I've done is that during my first maintenance, I just filled up the canister with water, and shut off the two valves. Put in the cover, and latched it... then I just connected the hoses that lead to the tank, and turn on the canister. Of course you have to release the valve as soon as you turn the canister on, and that's how i 'primed' my canister....

I noticed that, even when I shut the valves and also fill up the canister, turn on the valves again, the filter may not work.

Perhaps the water is not 100% filled, so I still have to prime the filter...:(

I still like auto-priming.:p

What Eca mentioned , might work sometimes , but not 100%.
Thats cos the inlet tube still has air inside it , and suction in the canister will draw the air into the canister leaving an air pocket inside which causes the air lock and the filter fails to get going.

Sometimes shaking the canister a short bit when starting up will get rid of the air lock.
Of cos settling for a self priming filter would be most ideal.

However as noted by leafhorn b4....the priming bit for Pro 2 series , sometimes is a pain , its not exactly easy to push the pump down.

Hmmm...
But how come my Eheim 2213 Works all the time?
Even when doing some cleaning up, i juz shut the taps off and take the canister out to clean the filter medium, put it back and switch the tap on, and the all the water juz goes into the canister. WAHLA~! Switch the power on and the filter goes on like normal~ :)
Or izzit mine got something special about it? Haha! :D
