HH, does this name apply to the original "zebra" of the trade or to both types of "zebra" oto? Both have differing stripe patterns.

I think the name applies to the first variant (at least).
I have not read the paper (having only seen the journal cover). Will let you know once I'm done reading.

The description is just not available online at the moment. I am making a pdf available (either by making one or asking Roberto for one). More details to follow...

choyii, the fish in your picture looks like the variant 2 of the zebra oto. I used to own several of these. Their banding is not well defined as in variant 1. Variant 1 happens to have a well-defined patch on the roof of the head. Variant 2 has a patterned patch if I recall correctly.

I am waiting for the SBI to send me all the issues of Neotropical Ichthyology that are due to me (along with some Brazilian fish books I ordered). Roberto has also agreed to send me a reprint of the paper. Depending on which comes first (the journal or the reprint), I will make a pdf from either one.
So I am making a final distribution list to send when the pdf is ready. Add your name to the list if it is not in here:

1. philtre
2. mad scientist
3. Simplex
4. hwchoy
5. mervin
6. MrTree
7. stormhawk
