For most small tanks, I guess the smaller output will be better, unless you like sand storms in your tanks.....
And you can look at the Eheim Aquaball too. I got mine from NA too.
$47 for a Eheim Aquaball (sorry forgot the model, but it's the double cannister one) think 2206 or 2208...

the edens are seriously too small for effective filtration for a 2ft tank. u should consider larger models like the aquaball zac mentioned or perhaps a smaller canister filter like the rena filstar with a lower flowrate. :)

Think with the Amount of $$$ to buy a Ehiem Internal Filter,
U can juz Top up a bit more to get a Atman Canister Filter. I'm Currently using as Atman 3335 for my 2ft. Cost $70 from NA. I find Canister Filters to be Better for All tanks in the very long run. Especially Big tanks.

Philtre,
you can use the Ehiem liberty 100 its around S$35. Good filtration and water circularisation. Not good for planted tank as CO2 loss. you won't see the filter as it is hang on the bank of the tank.
The canister recommeded by SIaoIang is recommmeded as you can use it for bigger tanks in the future. The filter will no doubt get you more bio filtration.
Internal filters do get messy when comes to maintenace.
Use the Eden before and IMO it is good in flowrate but the compartment is very small and gets clogged easily.

Phil,
If you need to try it out first, let me know. I can pass you either the Eheim Aquaball 2210 or the Eheim Liberty 100.
Cheers,

Wah Route, you very the fast! :p
Phitre, for a 2ft 'fish' tank (as compared to a 2ft planted tank where the Eden 304 is said to be good enough), I'd personally go for a canister filter. More reliable and lesser maintenance needed.
For internal filter, I'll go for the Eheim Aquaball.
I used the Eheim Liberty before, personally don't trust the bio philtration.;)
(I recently moved my 1.5ft planted shrimp tank from my parents' place to "my own place". Plants are Java ferns, Java moss and some Anubias nana. Shrimps left a couple, due to neglect. Using the Eden 304.
Then I added 10 small Cherry barbs. Wanting to change to Eheim Aquaball (for easy maintenance) but too bulky for that tank... I may switch to the Eheim Liberty later.)
Cheers!:)

One good thing about the Aquaball is that it's a modular system...
2206 is the one with one cannister... Only good for ultra-small tanks
2208, which is wat I'm using is for medium size tanks or those who wish to have better philtration (see lah fav, you made me do it too, heheehe).
And as you add in more modules, it'll help with more surface area for the bacteria to grow on as well as increased philtration for the tank....
But somehow, I find that the modules are kinda expensive leh... one small add-on module can be about $23 (at Sam Yicks), dunno wat's the best price outside...

For best philtration :p, get a cheap Atman 3335 or 3336. Around $50 at Yishan Blk 618.

I like to have best philtration :nehneh: for my tank too. But my available space was only 2ft, gotta leave some space around it, so only the 1.5ft can fit.
And the cabinet that came with it couldn't fit in a canister filter, so I've to settle for internal or hangon ones.
After the gravel and anubias nana sat down, there's not enough space to fit in even the smallest Aquaball. Yup, as usual, Eheim parts don't come cheap.
I managed to use the smallest Aquaball for a 16inch quarantine tank, and that's because it's bare-bottom.;)

I think Otocinclus xtilzus is responsible for this philtration.:D

To be honest, I don't think the Eheim Aquaball is good at all. Perhaps you guys can share what you like about it.
Personally, since I lost about 6 Corydoras hastatus to the Eheim Aquaball, I'll not a big fan of it. I suppose if you keep larger fishes, it's fine. For smaller fishes, I'll be very careful.
On Eden, if you tank is heavily planted, 304 should be more than enough. 316 is useful if you don't have enough plants to help with the water conditioning.
Cheers,
Benny, did your fishes get trapped in the slates?? If so, I think you left the power on too high... I keep it tuned down to about 15 - 20% power only.... And it's been ok...

I use the smallest Aquaball in my 16inch quarantine/hospital tank.
So far, the fish that's been in and out of there, had been:
Black Neon Tetra
Plecos
8 Otos
White Cloud Mountain Minnow
Non has got stuck before (touch wood), but maybe also because I keep the filter to the minimum, due to the size of the tank.
But again, corydoras sure are more curious than the others, since they like to squeeze into all kinds of corners and edges.
I'm now looking into the best filter to use in my 1.5ft jungle, which has 10 cherry barbs in it. Using Eden 304 now, but since I change the whole piece of filter wool each time, bio philtration is next to nothing.
Aquaball - maybe too strong?
Eden 316 - have to find time to travel to C328 to buy, but then again, trying not to have to dunk my hands in for maintenance.
Liberty - got to check if there's space for that, since I use a 2-tube light holder
last bet - my Ecco 2331

After much thoughts, I'd like to stick to using the existing Eden 304 for my 1.5ft tank:
Size:
1.5ft ('Up' brand)
Plants:
1 x long wood with Java ferns
1 x big Java ferns (windov sp) on wood
1 x small Java Ferns on wood
Java moss foreground, with clumps of same in the back of tank
Anubias nana covering rest of gravel
Livestock:
10 Cherry barbs
a few Malayan shrimps
Lights:
2 x 9w PL
I use filter wool in my Eden 304, and change the whole piece whenever I need to do filter maintenance. Therefore bio filtration cannot be relied upon, on this filter.
Question:
Will this work, if I really don't want to change the filter?
If not, which filter will you use, if you're in my position?
I hope to post a pic of this tank soon.:)
Thanks!

Actually this sounds kinda like my 6.5 gallon tank which is using a air-stone filter.... And I've not cleaned the filter for like the past 3 months!!!
Just leave it there if you wish to make it a bio-philtre....
Washing it removes all the beneficial bacteria as well as the wastes required for the bacteria to work on, making it cycle everytime you clean the filter. Another way is to leave 1/4 of the wool there.... and that'll act as the starter area for the bacteria to re-grow...

Route, I don't think Philtre is angry lah, unless you did something wrong already!:p
We're still in the topic of philtre... I mean, Eden filter. No?:D
Philtre, where are you?
Thanks for the tips, Michael. My restless soul will not allow me to leave the dirty-looking wool in the transparent filter.:p
Anyway, after staring at the tank for a good half hour last evening, I switched back to the Ecco 2331 which I used before I moved the tank over. Now I can rest in peace... hopefully.;)

aiyah dun tink phil is angry lah ... probably checking if got new product with good philtration :p :D :D
frankly, i've got the Eden 304 and i believe it is too small got good bio filtration ... Eden 316 is slightly better but not by much ... the Liberty series (which I am still considering) looks not bad :)
coryfav, wats the recommended smallest eheim ecco for a 2ft? ... estimated price?
Callichthyidae
27-03-2003, 11:36 AM
I use the 2231 for my 1.5ft, and 2233 for my 2ft.
But I personally find that 2233 is not enough for a 2ft if it's more for fish. My 2ft presently only has plants and shrimps.;)
Before the 'price increase for Eheim products' last year, I paid $138 for the 2231, and $158 for the 2233.
Some people don't like the Ecco series cos they said the handle breaks easily. But I've had no problem with mine, maybe because of my 'tender loving touch'.:p You can only turn the handle when everything is in its right places.;)
Yeah the Ecco series , one of the shop owners was telling me last time that the handle tends to go thru a lot of mechanical movement due to the priming effect and hence wear and tear results , causing it to become loose over time.
Moreover imo the filtration capacity of the Ecco series is really small , not worth getting in my opinion at least :D
