Hmm, hi i'm planning on getting a 4x2x2 or 5x2x2 feet tank, but can't decide on the type of filter to use. Thinking of using overhead layered filter, but been thinking about canister filter too. I know the important thing is the filter media and the composition of the beneficial bacteria. BUT. Money plays a part too. So help me out guys.

Hi Durian,

I propose a External Canister Filter...If u intend a 4FT/5FT then a gd filter media is very important. Brand: Eheim, i'll boldly say this brand is much more expensive than others but u r paying for it's quality, trustworthy product, problem-free & reliable. I'm using it for my own tank, one External & one Internal. Most people here will recommend you this brand too. Cheers......

Go for Eheim. Problem-free compared to other brands.

For filters, I will always try to buy canister above other filters. Because canisters are the most versatile filters, you can use for plant tanks, can use for marine tanks, can use for anyway freshwater tank. Other significant advantages is that it's neat, and wont take up space in the tank, and its powerful, and relatively low maintainence.

Brand to buy, Eheim.

Yup ! dn't know much about their inteneral ones. external canister r easier to "service" and they dn't take up any space in the tank. therefore......more plants and fishes hor. get the eheim pro 2 series. very good !!!!

Of course, they take pride in their products and will not lelong their canisters like cheapskate items. If you want good things, of course need to pay good price.

Alternative can get second hand Eheims, still good, and cheaper. Frankly saying, I rather buy second or even third hand Eheims than buy brand new Atmans.
