I am currently working on a news story for Practical Fishkeeping magazine on the sale of laser dyed fishes, thanks to Mad Scientist's excellent translations of the news reports published in the previous thread.
However, I need a picture of some Parrot cichlids (or similar) that have been dyed with a pattern or words using this technique to accompany the article.
If you have any images of dyed fish that you own the copyright to, or if you're able to shoot some of these fish at a nearby shop, I'd be extremely grateful if you could contact me.
Of course, I will pay you for these and they will be attributed to you in the photo credit.
If you can help, please PM me, or email me at the office on matt.clarke@emap.com
Many thanks,
Matt

Went to check with QianHu (Singapore biggest importer of fishes) and understand that they were all sold out before Chinese New Year. It appears that they were being "created" in China.

 any idea if they are "needle-dyed" or by the laser technique?
I checked with several Taiwanese friends who are "in the trade" and they all commented that fishes dyed using the laser tattooing technology would probably cost much much more since the technique itself is probably more "capital-intensive". Some think that it might just be a spoof that the HK fish shop was trying to pull just to get attention and popularity. They somewhat believe that the parrots are still dyed using the conventional "needle dyeing" technique. :dunnoe:

I was in a farm in Johor once and saw them allocating cories for dyeing. I don't know what method they used as I didn't bother to ask as I was disgusted. I was just looking at the breeding methods and stocking levels. IMO, it should be needle dyed as I didn't see any fancy equipment there.
Some months back one of the wholesalers here had a whole batch of gouramis which was "batik" printed....... all from China. -sigh-

This one I can do without ! hehehe! You know what I am looking for.....
Was wondering if the SPCA has any comments on such practice... it is somewhat "cruelty" to the fishes. I think we should spread the word. Perhaps an anti dye campaigh with a petition and support throughout via relevant governmental agencies can aid in stopping this "madness".
