Just got a new place and want to have a nice aquarium as the centrepiece of my living room.
Planned to have a tank about 1.8 m x 0.25 m x 0.4 m custom made to fit in between the wall
Is the size suitable for a planted aquarium with small colourful fishes, like tetras ??
Please advise on what equipment I will need and where to get them.
Thanks ;)

So the tank will be roughtly round off to 6ft lenght X 1 ft width X 1.5 ft height. Sounds ok for small fishes like Tetra, maybe can make it like a river type of setup. But you must also consider the fact that 1 ft width is not a lot and should you lost interests in keeping small fishes you cannot keep bigger fishes because of the short width.

Why not go for a typical 6X2X2? Price is more stable since its a common dimension or if there are space constraints a 6X1.5X1.5?

Thanks for the advise.
I m aware that the width will restrict keeping of bigger fishes. But, I am short of space. As this fish tank will fit in between the wall, a wider tank would mean that my room getting smaller.
For a tank of this size, what kind of equipments(like external filter, CO2, etc) do I need?? Where can I get these for a good price?
;)
A river type setup... hmmm.. interesting idea..
Any resource that I can refer to on this??

I agree with leafhorn , will be pretty restrictive on the type of setup and fish you are going to have due to the width of the tank , length is good but width a bit short in depth :)

But nonetheless , any tank is better than no tank.

I presume you will be delving into a planted tank setup ?
If that is the case , I would say a external canister filter such as an Eheim 2217( classic series ) or an Eheim Pro 2 2026 ( newer series ) should be able to handle the relatively small bioload . The output of these filters however might have to be dampen in order not to create too much agitation in the water.

Co2 are you planning to DIY or get a commercially ready off the shelf product ? What is the budget like for this ?
DIY CO2 is very easy to do but due to the size of the tank , might not be a good idea :) A canister would make your life much easier , and for this can try Nature Aquarium or Capricon Aquarium at Lor Halus.

Might want to try to surf around the web to look at other's setups , maybe even the AGA website to give you some inspiration and ideas :)

I am keen to have a planted tank, unless the size of my tank is not suitable.
How much does the Eheim 2026 and CO2 canister cost??
I am trying to keep within $600 budget for the whole setup including the tank which will cost about $180 (quotation from a shop specialised in glass and mirrors).
Is fish tank from these shop reliable? or is better to get from aquarium shop? I have checked with Nature Aquarium, a similar tank will cost $300+.

What about lightings? What do I need to set up sufficient lights for the plants?
