How to differentiate the sexes for hemichromis sp. (jewel cichlid)?

You're really fixated ion this fish, aren't you? :D

To answer your question, the one that lays eggs is a female and the one that fertilizes them, the male. Unfortunately, jewels are almost impossible to sex visually. Mature females will have a slightly rounded profile and old males will have a slight nuchal hump. I have, however, owned very plump males and females with nuchal humps.

You can vent them, of course. But that is something best demonstrated in person not over the web.
