Clean your Eheim hoses!

Wonder how often do you guys clean your hoses, the layer of brown/yellowish shit stains in my canister hoses grew so thick they affect the flowrate of my filters. Shit. Now I learned the shorter the hose, the lesser the joints, and the easier the maintainence.

Cleaned it only when I get sick of it :P.

Yeah, my second cannister now has shorter hoses than my first. Leart my lessons. It has just enuff extension length for a little pull but not so long that it has to be coiled once like my first.

I cleaned my first cannister's hoses by shoving paper towels through it with aid of a rod (wood, plastic, metal, any one I can get my hands on) or passing a high pressure water jet through it. Works pretty well till 2 months later when the layer builds up again.

Its supposed to be a build up of bene-bact on the inner sides of the tube...but then again the buildup does hinder water flow over time , albeit slightly.
Other than that dont think it really has any bad effects , perhaps only to look a bit unslightly for some of us :)

You can try getting those black tube brushes sold at HW stores.
They do a good job of clearing inner tube buildups.

I use the on the tap to shoot the tissue bullet air pressure method.

Actually when I clean the left side filter yesterday, I didnt remove anything at all and the filters are left on running, I just use my fingers to press the hose hard and the things peel off from inside the hose, and gets shot into the tank, where I placed a fish net to catch all those debris shot out.
