what is the main cause of the above?

The tank was setup 2 weeks ago. Initially it was growing well but gradually turning yellow and abit brown.

I used ball and liquid fert for the plants. It seems to happen when I added more fishes.

Which plant species is experiencing this problem? There are a number of reasons why the leaves turn yellow in initial setup.
a) Plants haven't gotten used to the new environment.
b) Wrong method of planting.
c) Disease
d) Nutrient deficiency or overload
e) Physical demage
f)Insufficient or too much light
g)Wrong type of substrate used
h)Wrong water conditions

My 2 ft tanks has the following config:

Substrate: 1L of potting mix + 1mm-2mm gravel (2" thick) + 7 ball JBL fert

Lighting: Hitachi 20W FL (daylight), 6hr/day

Live stocks: 10 neon tetra, 2 rainbow, 1 RAM, 3 cory, 1 oto, 2 "red eye"
and snails. All are eating well and lively. No algae so far.

Misc: DIY CO2 and weekly dose of liquid fert

BTW, can help me ID the pants which I posted at
http://photos.yahoo.com/blackranchu

The plants that turn brown. initially is healtly and growing very fast and I need to cut them as it is hitting the lighting.

Thanks in advance. :)

Forget to mention that the tank is placed near the window where there is sunlight coming in.

actually my concern is why the stem plants during the first week is growing so fast but out of a sudden it turns abit brownish and yet still growing as fast.

Not to forget that the other plants has no such problem.

BTW, my RAM seem to start nibbling at the plants :x Do any of you has similar problem?

the plant with white and green blotches on the leaves in front looks like money plant. It will leak toxins into the water if the stem or leaf is broken. Take out.

Give your plants more time to adjust. BUt i think the yellowing sword plant will do better with some extra space.

These money plants are dead first and then taken out except the two left. But do u mean the toxins leak into the water will affect the other plants, esp the one that turn brown?

Luckily the fishes did not show any sign of distress :) .

The toxins will affect your fish, not plants. Money plants, I must emphasise, are NOT aquatic plants.

See the following site: Money plant is also commonly known as devil's ivy.

http://www.kidsource.com/kidsource/content/Ingested.html

If grown such that the roots and lower stems are submerged, money plants can thrive. But if totally submerged, they will just die and rot eventually. Undamaged plants shouldn't leach oxalates into water, but if a fish bites or sucks at the plant, it's likely to happen.

How do betta keepers use the plant?

Hi Budak,Thks for the info.Betta keepers used to put them in their tank to absorb the ammonia. :)
