View Full Version : Nanochromis transvestitus
Just came across this at Biotope.
An african cichlid (West African) but not from the 3 rift lakes of Africa though.
Short quick profile on it :
Origin: Lake Mai-Ndombe, near Ipeke; (formerly Lake Leopold II or Lake Inonongo) in Zaire. In this blackwater lake N. transvestitus lives in rocky, sandy areas
Care: Although the fish are found in very soft dark tea-colored water with a pH of 4, Nannochromis transvestitus can be kept in soft, slightly acidic water. Adding some driftwood to the tank is beneficial. The fish inhabit the lower and middle regions of the tank. It will sometimes dig a little in the substrate, but rarely uproot plants. The substrate should be sandy.
Feeding: Live and frozen food, flake food is also accepted.
Size: Males up to 7 cm, females smaller, up to 6 cm.
pH: 5.0-7.0
Sexual dimorphism: Females have black and white vertical bars in the anal and caudal fin, and a bright red belly. The males have elongated dorsal and anal fins, and are larger.

An interesting thing abt this fish ( as well as how the name came about ) is that its the female thats more attractive and does the pursing of the male :)

Haha, we got the same taste, already eyeing on it, and some other West african species, but not so fast.

Yah lor.
But its something rare in Sg , charles probably the first to stock it ever.
Wasted not to get....hmmmmmmmm haha :D

Is it a pair or just one fish?
Females are more colourful. If it's from Thailand, Jason might be able to get also.
How much biotope selling?
Is this fish located on the bottom row of Charles tanks?

Hai... Really die liaoz this time...
Mix with u guys liaoz got to noe more exotic fishes then oso gian by u all to get them... Hai... But NO $$$!!! How? How? How? :(

Upgrade my equipments 1st b4 buying new nice fishes. Haha!

Biotope bringing in new stock of eliz and panduro this week
want to go cos I oso want to buy gravel for my new tank.:)

But each 1 of them Cost about $80 if not wrong...
A pair will cost me $160. No $$$ for tat yet. No tank oso. Haha!

Siaolang actually talking to lego about eliz and panduro at $80, I toking he refering to Nanochromis, really tui xin gua, lon pia tao phua.
Boh yuan. Hope Charles bring in again.
