Hydor Prime from Italy, Rena from France, Fluval(Hagen) from USA, Via Aqua (USA I think) but take note that all these no spare parts nor warranty, so if spoilt or broke means money fly fly. Price wise, maybe 25 to 50% cheaper than Eheim.
anything within the 100 to 150 bucks range?
Probably Atman then....but quality wise...try to find out :D
Try getting it at the Yishun LFS some people toking abt...supposed to be cheap...maybe can pm AMF , he knows where it is :)

Yup.. my 3ft is using a 3336. Quite good.
But for your 4ft tank, you probably need a 3337 minimum but i strongly recommend 3338 if you like to use densed filter media.
My 3ft is filtered with a sponge sandwiched bio-balls (3-tray).
Aro tank is not really very dirty, thus I can maintain a very efficient biological mechanism filter with quick flowrate.
If you are willing to spend more.. Try Dolphin 700/900/1200, it is a full-priming external canister filter..

dolphin, astro, atman, hiyah, all taiwan/china made stuff.
If its not Eheim, then get European brands like Hydor, Rena, etc, or US brands like Fluval, Aquaclear, Via Aqua, etc, sub brands of Hagen or Tetra. Or get Japanese brands, got a few around, Jaqna or something.

If you don't like China-made, but still prefer cheaper model.
My recommendation is Fluval.
Very reliable and long lasting.. my 2ft tank still using Fluval 103, which is almost 6 years old.
Older fluval parts are hard to find if you really need replacement.

I would suggest u try Atman cos it is compatible wif EHEIM parts which is quite common. If u want self priming then can consider PRIME

Bought 1 Atman 1 recently from NA.
I asked the lady if they sell spareparts if the taps are spoiled for example. She replied saying if anything wrong juz brnig it back. Maybe she mean they sell the spareparts? Hehe! ;)
