View Full Version : My 'Tank Cover'

I finally got a 'tank cover'!:D
Never wanted to put one in all my tanks, cos I wanted as much air circulation around, as possible. You know, the water temperature issue...
But I got this recently:

Lydia, this's the $1 for a piece of 15cm x 15cm, that I got from CPolyart. I prefer this cos I can join the pieces to a size that I like. Later, I can also dismantle and join in another way for another tank.;)
The other one that I got from a hardware shop... the pic was accidentally deleted from my camera when a colleague and I was playing around with it yesterday.:(
Anyway, it's white, slightly thinner material and sold as a big piece. I paid $10 for a 2ft x 2ft piece. Though cheaper as a whole, I've to cut it to size and later on, will not be able to 'undo' the size.
Does anyone here know what these pieces of plastics are actually used for, before they became aquarists' accessories?
Cheers!:D

The cover acts as a deterrent, cos I know plecos will not be able to jump thru, corys... slim chance, more for my rummynose tetras and others.
I'm hoping that, with those 1cm holes, (if they jump) they won't do so vertically and will thus hit the joints instead.;)
If not mistaken this kind of grating is sometimes used to hold together wiring inside false ceilings....think i have seen this in use b4.
But is really big pieces.
Kinda like light diffuser , at least got good airflow still into the tank :)

Right! When I first saw the white whole-big-piece type, 'diffuser' and 'false ceiling's lights' came to mind.
But when I saw these 15cm x 15cm type which can be joined to make bigger pieces, I became puzzled. Nearly went to toys department to look for cheaper version!:D

Avant, so you see words like 'deterrent' and 'hoping', used by me in my earlier mail. Then Art's 'good airflow' applies too.:p

Huh? What fault? Don't be so sad, leh!:p
Anyway, if anyone else have any other ideas about covers, do let me know.
Thanks!:)
How about netting with some kind of frame to place over the 4 sides of the tank ?
Trying to construct one for cloud for his 2ft tank also :D

Then have to do 'construction work' huh? Art, show us a pic when you complete this project?;)
What kind of a netting do you intend to use. If the holes are very small, won't it interfer with the air circulation?
Awaiting the pic.:)

OK just came out with this idea to make a cover! Any comment! Btw if anyone wan to do this, rem to trim the side as the material is quite sharp at the corners!

Hey, looks great!;)
What's that, you used for the rim?
But what's the rate of light penetration with that cover? Any info yet, on that?:)
Hmm... if I use such a cover, the lizards will definitely not drop into my tanks! Not that any has done that yet.:D
Pss... I saw Carrerfour selling lizard traps the other day! That's new to me. Anyway, didn't buy cos I'll then have to scream for someone to remove the trap.:p

It is some form of plastic sheet, if u have gone to biotope, u will get wat i mean! U can easily get that at popular bookstore. :)
As for light penetration, the cover didnt affect much, maybe at the side.
I haben have lizard drop into my tank, if they do, it will be dinner for my 10 inches jag hahah~
Wow the lizard trap sound interesting, maybe live food for my bigger fishes! :) hahaha
Think that kind of board is called corrugated (sp?) board if not mistaken :)

Ah! I thought that's the term for it. But wasn't sure, so I didn't dare to use it (the term).:p
Thanks, Shirley.:)
